It is normal to have your period when you are a teenager. So, stay focused and continue your studies. Don’t be influenced by your grand-mother no matter what she tells you. I was 15 when I had my first period. I had painful periods at that time. Then, my grand-mother told me to have sexual intercourses to avoid such pain. I felt somewhat embarrassed and asked advice from Odelette. She brought me to a health center and the agent there gave me some advice. He examined me and confirmed that everything was normal. In this region, lots of teenagers have sex at an early age. Some had it because of customs. Some parents force their children to marry at an early age.
Some had sexual intercourse because of their ignorance and lack of education. They take it as a hobby. Our mission is to sensitize the young people in our area about their health in general, including reproductive health. If they become sick we bring them to a health center so that they can have access to advice and treatment. The health centers in Ifarantsa take care of young people from 10 to 24 years old. They are sent by a community agent or they come of their own free will. We give them the necessary treatment when they are sick or we give them advice if needed. All of it is free of charge, even the medicines. We also have a special place for teenagers where they can watch informative films. It is a place where they can have fun and talk about their experiences with other youth on issues such as reproductive health so that they can plan for their future life. I am so happy because thanks to their support, I can help my little brothers and sisters and I can also use them for my own life. I will do my best to succeed and become a teacher when I grow up.
