Understanding the New Nutrition Facts Label: Are You Label Able? Part 1

The Nutrition Facts label has been updated! Now, when you look at the new label, you will
notice a few changes for servings per container, serving size, and calories. The font sizes have been enlarged, and serving
sizes will now be more reflective of what a person would typically eat at one time-
not what they are recommended to eat by federal guidelines. Food packages that are typically in one sitting,
will now be labeled as 1 serving. For example, both a 12 and 20 ounce soda will
be labeled as 1 serving. For food items like these, nutrient and calorie
information will be provided per serving. Food items that can be eaten in one or multiple
sittings will now have a dual column label that will provide nutrient and calorie information
per package as well as per serving. These changes have been made to help you make
more informed decisions about the amount of food you are eating and drinking- so be mindful.
