Hello and welcome. I’ve just graduated
and I’ve had an amazing time at UWL but like life in general there’s been a few
bumps along the way. I’m here to share with you how I got through those rocky
moments so you’ll know what to do if you hit any problems while you’re here.
Firstly, don’t tackle problems alone you really don’t need to. UWL is brilliant at
supporting its students and the welfare team are here to do just that. Remember
it can take a while to settle in – this is a time of big changes in lots of areas
of your life after all. And also remember it’s not just you – we all go through
challenging times occasionally. It may be a cliche but it really is better to talk
about problems with a friend, your tutor, or the welfare team. When I
had an issue I went to talk to the welfare team and the advisor I saw was
great at listening and helping me deal with it. So if you have any personal
difficulties, have an issue with another student or member of staff, have a
problem with your accommodation or your course, go and talk to them. No problem is
too big or too small. Ask them for help when you need it – you
don’t even need an appointment just stop by the student services desk on The
Street. The desk is open 9 to 5 Monday to Friday. All conversations are
confidential and impartial and they will work on getting you the right support.
They can also help you if you’re concerned about a friend.
Try not to wait until things have reached crisis point.
As soon as I asked for help it eased my worries. I hope you have a fantastic time
at UWL and remember whenever you need a hand just ask.
