Whānau had alerted authorities over concerns for Baby JJ’s welfare

An aunt of Josephine Lawrence
called CYFS several times to complain about
JJ Lawrence’s well-being. The family previously tried to get
custody of the 2-year-old, because they had real
concerns for his welfare. Anzac Pikia was in court
with today’s developments. For a while JJ Lawrence lived with
his mother’s family in Tauranga, they say he was a very sickly child. The whanau tried to keep
JJ Lawrence with them because they were concerned
about his well-being. On one occasion,
the aunt called CYFS because it was the second time
the child had broken his arm. This was what Joel Loffley
told his aunts of what went down
the day JJ Lawrence died. The trial continues tomorrow. Anzac Pikia, Te Karere.
